It’s not coincidental that one of my go tos for getting work done is listening to #DubTechno - a steady driving beat, no vocals, lots of staticky noise.

For the record, sharing a similar story about myself in response to your story is an ADHD attempt to build rapport. As someone with ADHD I love hearing your related story but I understand that it comes across as trying to steal the spotlight sometimes.
I finally learned to be a lot easier on myself about 3 years ago and it has made living with #adhd so much easier (so has #Stoicism and being intentional about whether something is worth the energy or not).
If you had to give one tip to someone newly diagnosed with ADHD, what would it be?

Q: How do you stay focused on one project or idea at a time?
A: I stop myself from doing too much in one day, or over multiple days (ie #hyperfocus), because it results in mild burnout, which means I have to stop & distract myself; days become weeks become months and re-starting *always* feels worse than starting.
So I limit myself to X hours/day, with flexibility to stop a little sooner if a stopping point presents itself, or a little later if I have to complete something. (This also accounts for Y hours/day for work.)
The biggest thing is to be easy on myself because my inner critic is a harsh MF. Being able to let it go (thx to #Stoicism) and think that I’ll do better tomorrow is much more helpful than beating myself up. It makes getting back on the horse easier.
What about you?

Just realized that I’ve been able to #workout consistently because when I have the internal ‘Do I really want to work out today’ debate, I do it while feeding the animals. By the time they’ve got food & water, I’ve convinced myself to at least do a shorter workout.
Today I’m up a bit late but I’m achy af due to a weekend of yard work. But I need a #mobility workout to feel better.

ADHD adult life in action: relearning how to manage overactive ADHD brain every time you take a long break.
I just re-discovered brown noise all over again, and no wonder I cannot read last week without the help of the brown noise.

Interesting to hear #DavidGoggins talk about being taken off the #ADHD medication he was on when he was younger & wanted to join the military in his new book's audio version...

So, my #ADHD really really likes Mastodon. Which is great because it's giving me momentum to get out of a funk. But it's also terrible because I've been looking at this for an hour instead of doing the work I need to get done.
Going to attempt to use an add-on to limit my time on here, but any other healthy #ADHDTips for using social media like this?

Does music selection, some volume, noise cancelling headphones & coffee help you at all?
Tried Pomodoro timer practise? Times can vary but
Like 25mins to a timer then break for a few like 5mins to let your mind wander then repeat.

I use The Discworld as my sleep-aid every night, it really helps me distract from my brain and makes going to sleep feel nice. Also lessens the inertia of moving to bed as I actually look forward to it and don't want to be so tired I fall asleep right away.
They are all stories I know and they are enough of a fairytale to remind me how nice it was a kid when my dad always read bedtime stories to me.
I have now come upon The Hogfather, purely by chance. How fitting.

I am back! Three things that help me to bounce back:
1. LOTS of sleep, yeah I mean lots
2. Have a go-to meal (ramen)
3. Have a go-to practice/read (I am re-taking the Power of Awareness once again to center myself at the beginning of the day)

In brief: signal you have a thought using 🤞 (even double-crossed). Much better than the half-hand-raise I've sometimes done.
And better yet, let people know they can signal you that way. It works as a self-reminder with strangers. But I'm hoping it will catch on with my friends/colleagues more widely.
