New article from Arabic for Nerds:

"al-rahman and al-rahim – Is there a difference in meaning?"

Muslims say "In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the most Merciful", the Basmalah. The attributes are used as synonyms, but there is a fine difference.

New article from Arabic for Nerds:

"الصَّلاةُ خَيْرٌ مِن الْنَّوْمِ: “Prayer is better than sleep” – Is it really “better”?"

The Islamic call to prayer is a tricky construction. In Sunni Islam, the muezzin uses khayr (خير) which strangely denotes a comparative (better). Why?

C - neither - I always say "simultaneous universe" 😎

But if you can say "alternate route", I don't see how "alternate reality" is incorrect...unless it was originated as a compound noun...

That was enough for one 😆

@linguistics Many linguists think that some languages lack adjectives – they treat all property concepts as verbs. This became well-known with Dixon's (1977), but many languages had of course been described as having verb-like property concepts before (e.g. Tahitian, or Chinese).

But why not the other way round? Why don't we say that some languages lack verbs (treating all action concepts as adjectives)? Are verbs inherently more worthy?

I've just learnt a new word:
loquacious
adjective
lo·qua·cious lō-ˈkwā-shəs
1
: full of excessive talk : WORDY
2
: given to fluent or excessive talk : GARRULOUS
loquaciously adverb

Poets have used poetic license, stretched its meaning to include such things as the chattering of birds and the babbling of brooks. In less poetic uses, loquacious usually means "excessively talkative." The ultimate source of all this chattiness is loqui, a Latin verb meaning "to speak."
