Many, many years ago I was an #adjunct at #rutgers - the wages for adjuncts were then as they are now disastrous. And the little corner of Rutgers that I was in exploited adjuncts for what I would argue were corrupt purposes. So, yes, I support the #strike at Rutgers.

One of the sad parts of being an adjunct is when students ask you to take part in really cool events or clubs...and you just can't 😕 Not because you don't want to, but because the time/days/extra time on campus just doesn't work with responsibilities at multiple schools.

It occurs to me I haven’t done a formal introduction on here, so…hi! I’m a #librarian and director of an #academiclibrary, and an #adjunct #professor, all at a small #university in the South. I have #cats and #dogs, read a lot of nonfiction, watch too much #truecrime, and am an overall #geek. Mom to a college student, wife to a fellow geek. She/her.

If the #pandemic, money, and #adjunct purgatory weren't issues, I'd likely get a PhD and try to find a way spend the rest of my life researching and writing, but #academia is being gutted and run on a business model instead of for the greater good of knowledge production. So I don't know how viable that is as a #career. So I'm trying to hold on to my little #nonprofit job and hope I can keep making enough to live while still managing to eek out enough time for what I'm actually passionate about

Many, many years ago when I was getting my start in #academia I was an #adjunct at Rutgers in the writing program (more on that at another time). To call the pay subsistence would be to give it too much credit. I had to commute in from NYC while holding down another position. I had 50 students and lost every weekend to paper grading. So yeah, they have my support. #union #AcademicMastodon

I am in danger of being dropped because my #DWFI rates are so abysmal--my Ws are killing me--& have been orienting my mind & my life toward no longer #teaching after this next term. Then I open my email this morning & find I've been nominated by a couple of my students for a teaching award.
