Update!

I have a key. I have been able to enter the office and explore. There are chairs. There is a phone. Keyboards and computer mouses.

Still no desks or harddrives so that I can actually do some work. But it smells nice. That’s good. Better than the opposite. @academicchatter #adjunctlife

Being an adjunct is so weird, my semester started this week and to date the only employee I’ve had a personal interaction with was the super helpful woman who certified my I-9.

No one has talked to me about the department and its mission, about the student body, about the course. No one made sure I could access canvas or zoom. No one checked my syllabus. Did I show up on the first day of class??? No one except the students has any idea.

I had 3 days off and I'm not back in the saddle for 3 hours before I have a b****ing kink in my right shoulder. it hurts to do anything!

Right now I'm trying to figure out if it's the job or my neuroses.

Either way, this is not sustainable.

#SelfCare today looks like getting off work *on time* and granting myself the Monday holiday off into the bargain.

It's tempting to pretend I'm out and use that time to catch up on grading but I will not. I am tired, and I already have so many hours 'in the bank' that if I don't start reclaiming them I'll lose them.

I'm so excited! I actually got the next module loaded before noon and am going to have a normal weekend off for the first time this semester. (Up to now, I've only had two Saturdays.)

Me: "It's asynchronous--you can start at the top of the module page and work your way through it until you're caught up."

It's what I love, love, love about #TeachingOnline asynchronous. If this were a F2F class, he'd have missed two entire meetings and getting him caught up would be a hecking nightmare.
