@pixx I hate surveillance advertising as much as the next person but, in the world we live in today, I think #AdNauseam mostly has the effect of sending money to #Google and #Meta. I'd love to abolish surveillance advertising, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

@pixx Wouldn't #AdNauseam enable the ad broker (such as #Google or #Meta) to charge the advertiser for every click, even though no human has seen the advert? In other words, doesn't this make Google and Meta even richer, at the expense of the advertiser, and therefore, ultimately, the customer?

I've been using #AdNauseam for a few months now on the promise that feeding garbage data into my ad profile would protect my privacy. Interestingly, while there's been a few outliers, the portrait is still plausibly true to my interests. I think I get even more ads for things I'd be likely to buy than before I started. I plan to keep using it, since I still have high hopes for what it's at least trying to accomplish, but I'm not sure it's done anything for me besides waste bandwidth so far

@zeruch @mxtthxw That’s why I said “motivated”. Most ppl are not motivated for privacy or for consumer rights (when boycotts are called for). #AdNauseam is useful for that unmotivated crowd. Some ppl will refuse to obtain a gmail account, but how many will refuse to give their email address to a #GMail user, even if that means doing an MX lookup on their vanity address? I may be the only one.

#AdNauseam do not protect people from precise behavioural profiling (that depends on the page's contents and users' micro-interactions, NOT clicks) but helps #Google #Ads by raising the click rate stats (and indirectly their profits)

To protect my (and my friends/family's) data, I host a #nextcloud server (naturally) and signed us all up for #tutanota accounts. We're working on a #pfSense firewall and upgrading from a single server to a #kubernetes cluster. Personally, I also use #lineageos (to avoid tracking in #android) and #qubesos (because VM's), and #adnauseam adblock/baffler on my mobile and desktop browser. I recently enabled 2fa everywhere I could.
