@ishe I’d spent 48 yrs thinking I was alone when I most certainly wasn’t. I never knew there were so many other #adoptees who were hurting & grieving. Finding support & receiving validation from other adoptees COMPLETELY changed my life. I can’t even articulate the diff it made hearing others admit to feelings that society refuses to allow us to feel. & that it shames & PUNISHES us for feeling. /end #adoption #AdopteeVoices

I am sorry you feel that way. All of us (adoptees) are wounded to some degree or another but it plays out differently for different people. Have you read The Primal Wound by Nancy Newton Verrier. I couldn't relate to all aspects of it but, for the bits I did relate to, it helped explain quite a lot to me about myself #Adoption #Adoptees

I was 22 years old when I learned my original name. I hadn’t even known I had had one. I was raised Jewish and knew about my Jewish ancestry, but not my Swedish and Irish ancestry. That still feels entirely foreign. How much of it is still “mine?” I was a nature girl in a shopping and gambling family. A pear-shaped girl with an apple-shaped mother. A-cup a girl with a D-cup mother. An extremely shy girl with an extremely outgoing mother. When I finally met my birth mother, we had the same body, we had the same mannerisms. I couldn’t even see it at first because I couldn’t see myself. When I finally met my birth father, we had the same interests, the same passion, the same intense hurt over the state of the world. I finally understood who I was. I was 25 years old. Can’t imagine navigating a whole life w/o reconnecting.

I am greatly enjoying season 3 of Picard, but it's hard for me to watch and not relate what Jack is going through to the experience of an adoptee. Granted, I don't think something in background is threatening to turn me into a weapon to destroy the world as we know it, but I do track with the innate fear of having something dark in your background that can directly impact your life. Depression, drug abuse, suicide, the way I deal with stress, on and on. #adoptee #adoptees
