Technology should exist for our convenience, not for the convenience of anyone who wants to interrupt us.
from by

This resonates deeply with me. I loathe constant phone buzzing or browser notifications. Sometimes it feels like we’re slaves to the technology instead of us being the boss.

FYI the is not aimed at the at all; my goal in reading it is to find -backed information that can help me understand and handle my distractions and maybe - just maybe - he’ll have some that will be useful for *my* brain.

For example, knowing that it takes 29 minutes to get back on track after distracting ourselves (vs 6 minutes when distracted by someone else) quantifies the consequences of distractions. Thinking that a distraction = losing half an hour feels much more tangible.

3/? I was diagnosed in childhood during the 90s when professionals still said I might grow out of it. I learned how to cope as an ADHD child (meds and white knuckle hypervigilance) hoping I would become normal in time. That never happened but I've come to accept my as an immutable aspect of my whole person, not a pathology that diminishes who I could have been.

I am LOVING the app for saving things to read later. I've used and almost never read what I saved, and used 's Reading List slightly more. I've tried saving articles to Pinterest too (it's a total black hole).

Omnivore is truly useful which makes me *want* to use it. It allows for highlighting articles and then *importing those highlights into * - on the plan.

Omnivore also provides an email address for subscribing to , which keeps my Inbox clean AND I can now easily save useful highlights from my . And I discovered today that I can forward individual emails too!

Omnivore has been a boon as I build a by saving information so my brain doesn't need to look up the same things repeatedly, or try to figure out where I saved that info I happen to need.

Did I need to my ? Of course not.

But I did it anyway, and now it's changed but there's still more work to do, which will likely fall by the wayside within a couple of days.

Thanks 😆

One aspect of that’s irritating af is forgetting to do the things I want to do for fun. I don’t need to keep the not-fun stuff I do in my head so it can stay in a task manager but do I really need to make reminders to myself for things like ‘Read for fun while drinking coffee?’ 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

What management app has made it easier for you to deal with and prevent tasks from falling through the cracks?

I use , as its the best I've found so far, but I feel it could be better.

It’s Friday, which means my brain is tired from the week as I worked a little too long on a couple of days. It’s a lot easier to get distracted on Friday morning and a lot less motivating to get the day going. I try to limit my hours of work per day but I’ve been experimenting with change the last couple of weeks.

Maybe it’s worth it to get what I can get done on some days, striking while the iron/hyperfocus is hot? It must all even out in the end.

Or this could simply be the result of 3 straight nights of mediocre sleep.

Just completed a for the first time ever, after spending a couple of weeks wrangling with & the Templater plugin (and reading too many how to posts from people who all do things differently).

I'm finding daily notes helpful for thinking about what I want to get done and clear my head early in the day, and the weekly review is something I've been putting off for a couple of years until I had a process that made sense (mad props to Obsidian for being the vehicle for this)

is such a challenge with because 99% of the neurotypical advice just doesn't work for us. So it's a struggle not only finding something that might work, but tweaking it until it makes sense for my specific brain.

I met an old friend from college for the first time in over a decade last weekend, and it was good to see that some things don’t change, despite time & distance.

Recently they invited me to join a group chat w/ other college acquaintances, which I declined because why would I willfully chat with people just because we went to the same school for a bit?

My friend said that everyone else had given up and accepted their lot in life. Most are neurotypical and some judged me for not studying or being serious enough. Who wants to be surrounded by people who feel like that?

2 things I’ve learned about my : 1) I never run out of ideas so there’s always something keeping things interesting (the big problem is sorting through them), and 2) my persistence is fierce.

I guess having a sketchy memory and being easily distracted has some benefits 😂

It’s Friday, which shouldn’t be a special day but it is because I haven’t built that life I don’t need to escape from yet.

What’s one good thing that happened to you this week, my peeps?

I got off my butt to work on a tshirt design because I don’t like the cookie cutter designs out there. I just want something nice & retro so I might as well make it myself. Being creative & solving creative problems is food for my soul.

What about you?
