I never used #TweetDeck as a #Twitter user, nor even heard of it, but when I got a #Mastodon account, I accidentally stumbled onto the #AdvancedWebInterface and immediatedly started using it.

Meanwhile, after Twitter got bought out and started making bad business decisions, people kept on talking about a thing called "TweetDeck" and seemed to imply it existed on Mastodon.

It took me a while to realize that these were the same thing, lol

I use the #Mastodon website in my browser/s, with #AdvancedWebInterface & #SlowMode enabled. Each morning, over muesli & coffee, i #PageDown my Home timeline to find the last posts i read before bed last night, then begin reading up the timeline. Given i #Follow a fairly large number of #Hashtags, each morning i have a really impressively large "cornucopia" to digest. It would help the process a lot if that initial Page Down [actually tbh, i rarely use that key, instead using the so-called End key] could automagically take me in *one* jump to the last post i had read. I wish the Masto website for each Instance had an extra setting in Preferences that enabled such functionality. 🤞

All day i've had to manually reload the tab whenever i wanna see new content. So i've just now re-enabled #SlowMode, but based on your post, it seems that's unlikely to help me either.

I don't understand what has changed, to cause this new problem. 🤷‍♀️

In my early months of Masto, last year, in my original #Instance, i personalised my Masto browser view to have five permanently visible columns, then used some #Stylus #css to adjust column widths, font sizes etc for comfy viewing in my browsers. The fifth column was the local timeline, which i used for casual reading during the times my Home column remained fairly "under-nourished".

One day, sometime last year, i learned from someone's helpful post that we could follow hashtags, something nowadays just blindingly obvious, but to me back then was utterly unknown. So i began doing so, adding more over time as needs & wants be.

A month or two ago, 'ish, i suddenly realised that nowadays i was spending ZERO time in that local timeline, given my Home column is always full as a goog, full up to dolly's wax, full to pussy's bow, et al 😜 Hence it was time to again edit my css, & my Masto interface, to revert to the four-column view.

TL;DR: following hashtags is fabulously handy!

You know there's an #AdvancedWebInterface on this here? Does anyone use it? Because ick, it seems reet clunky to me.

Normal web interface: a nice cosy fireside wingback armchair and a glass of your favourite tipple (I'll have a single malt, please, my good man);

"Advanced" Web Interface: Slumped on the cold wet concrete floor of a disused, condemned factory, the windows are broken, and half the roof is missing, with a third of a can of Special Brew in hand.

I don't like it much. Can you tell?

Any "Advanced Web Interface" Mastodon users out there with a lot of pinned columns? I got frustrated that clicking things in the left drawer changed the right-most column. The following line of CSS (which I added via Stylebot) keeps the drawer column last, which feels much more natural as the UI automatically scrolls to the right when content is loaded in that unpinnable, dynamic, right column.

bookmarks: if there's some post that has resources or content you wanna keep in circulation... bookmark it, pin a bookmark column, and then just RT it periodically until nobody wants to follow you anymore!

I was just writing a post complaining that sometimes the web UI opened profiles from other instances in a new tab, and then it occurred to me to check my extensions.

It was the ‘Stop link trackers’ setting in StopTheMadness, if anyone’s having the same problem.

-1: Mastodon is #opensource, and there are quite a few mobile applications. Check out some others!

-2: On a desktop computer, you probably want to use the web iteration of Mastodon. Definitely go to your account settings and choose to use #advancedwebinterface instead. Vastly better experience.

1. When using #advancedwebinterface, allow posts to be expanded (and replied to) in-column when clicked, rather than appearing in the column at the verrrrrrrry end column.

2. Or, at least, when using advanced web interface, allow "Getting started" column to be moveable

Is it possible to access the floating windows from #Mastodon's #AdvancedWebInterface while in vertical portrait mode on a phone?

I love the hashtag TweetDeck type views to keep a track of topics. They are brilliant, but the responsive CSS only shows them in landscape horizontal mode...

Otherwise followed hashtags just get lost in the feed....

#TIL in Mastodon's #AdvancedWebInterface, you can use number and arrow keys to navigate the columns (e.g. press 2️⃣ to move to the notifications column, then ⬆️/⬇️ to move through notifications, then the "enter" key to open a single message).
