I should catch up my #adventword series over here (been posting them to facebook) but my discovery for "flourish" needs to be shared far and wide in these dark days
I extra extra extra love today's #AdventWord post from Godly Play featuring my trainer pal JT at the #WildGooseFestival!

#AdventWord Make
When I was a teenager, I was so angry at the church because, well, bad things had happened to me and I didn't think that God gave even a half a shit about humanity. I was wrestling with having been sexually assaulted when a well-meaning friend insinuated that was part of God's plan for me.
The recovery from that, in a theological sense, took decades. I spent a lot of time as an out-loud atheist, because there was no room in my head and heart for God.

"Oh, give me some time
Show me the foothold from which I can climb
Yeah, when I feel low
You show me a signpost for where I should go..."
#AdventWord : Teach
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrxX9TBj2zY
With the exception of some folk songs from the 70s and some gospel songs that have crossed over, "Teach" is not good fodder for pop music.
With this perception -- and a darker one of seduction -- permeating pop culture on the notion of teaching and teachers, I find my own calling as it ties in with education challenged today.

It's fun posting these with no context on FB but in a way each song I post with them are themselves jumping points for meditation. This one, for instance: "We will make it through somehow" -- there's an emphasis on the "we" aspect of that. This has been an excruciating year, but I'm surrounded with love that is getting me through it.

#adventword: Walk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbNlMtqrYS0
I'm always fascinated with how pop culture and pop songs intersect with questions of faith, and this song always gets me thinking: What would you walk 500 miles for? Or 500 more?
Mary and Joseph had to walk 90 miles and I'm always bothered to have to walk 50 feet. although that bad hip has a lot to do with it.
27. Walk
One step at a time
The path is in front of us
Just walking forward
