A memory from the ‘before times’ (Dec 2018), when we still lived in our house in Kent and had a fantastic kitchen. I would bake #christmas #biscuits (but shop bought #german #lebkuchen ala #gingerbread biscuits) and also make an #adventwreath for home.

Here I had also made a #christmaswreath as a basket for my biscuits. My colleagues went crazy over them, though they always did that over any free, homemade foods 😂.

Haven’t baked since moving to Jakarta 😢

@HMinchin I agree it’s a bit grumpy. It seems like this is a good place to involve people (families, kids). But there are also a lot of …. not good things from people who want ritual but aren’t familiar with it. At our early service we light it while reading the Collect of the Day. At the later service we light it before the service with a good prayer I found.

Okay, I'm going to say it: The #Episcopal Church's rubric about the #AdventWreath having to be lit without ceremony is just being GRUMPY. We should change it. If you don't want a bit of ritual around the lighting of the wreath, then don't have a wreath at all. It really is optional. Loads of parishes are breaking this rubric. Having rules that don't have a strong justification and thus frequently get broken, encourages breaking rules that really do need to be kept.
