When I tell em to use an #adblocker my partner dismisses me saying ey sometimes see things ey want to buy because the ads are so well targeted to em.

But it's not the content of the #ads that's the problem; it's that they are there, taking up my #attention. The more targeted they are, the more of my attention they absorb which encourages the #advertisers to advertise more.

I block #advertising to defend my #executiveFunction, and disincentivize unhealthy platform behavior.

What I'm getting at here is that thanks to the #internet, the choices toward what to consume from the #news/media/information industry is more in the hands of each #individual.

Thanks to #socialmedia, most of that control can be influenced by #algorithms, #advertisers, and outside individuals that can paint a landscape that isn't what one needs to follow.

However, thanks to the #fediverse like #Mastadon, control is back in one's own hands...
