Super-resistant #Aedes mosquitoes from Cambodia and Vietnam. Intersting study in Sci Adv (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abq7345), the authors find the highest #pyrethroid resistance seen in a field population so far. The mosquitoes carries a novel set of mutations in the molecular target of pyrethroid insecticides. Troubling.

Geosmin, a favorite smell of mine, prevents egg-laying in #drosophila, but is used as a egg-laying cue in #aedes mosquitoes. New paper argues that geosmin affects mitochondrial electron transport and respiration in larval #zebrafish, leading to reduced locomotion. A bit surprised by this finding, countless of studies have failed to see any toxic effects of this compound.

Dengue cases in Singapore are on the rise, and it involves a dengue serotype that hasn't been seen for some time.

"As Singapore has not seen a dengue-3 [serotype] outbreak in the last three decades, the population immunity for dengue-3 is low and therefore more susceptible to transmission of the virus,” NEA said."
