I'm very excited because I was again able to see a Normal Shock Wave on the wing of an E170 I was flying on. It's this very subtle vertical shadow in the middle of the wing. NSW happens when part of the airflow over the wing is supersonic, while the rest is still subsonic. In the transition area between supersonic and subsonic, a standing wave becomes barely visible.
