I live on some wooded acres behind a locked driveway gate. Tired of people and their #viruses. So when I let in some contractors to do some work outside, guess what I had stuck to my face regardless of what they might have thought? Yes, an #elastomeric #N95 w a pair of dry-eye Rx glasses to keep their #aerosol out of my eyes & not just my nose. Our interaction (outside) was just for a few minutes.

Extreme? Well, one of them turned out to have a nasty cough. I like not worrying about that.

As I watch the ramping up of institutional #covid19 #outbreak #notifications in #Ontario, it is yet another wave's reminder that, at least in Canada, #IPAC is mostly a cargo cult science.

I know a few counterpoints to this view like Dr Victor Leung from BC who is a true practice leader in the field, but they are rare and rather quiet due to discipline pressure to conform to approved #DropletDogma

If you are in IPAC, please help drive your discipline from a handwashing, droplet & contacts precaution compliance mindset to one that truely embraces airborne risk mitigation, if not elimination. Don't just transfer the risk to the patient, and wash your hands of it.

The science on aerosol transmission has been so clear for so long that one can only conclude that public health physicians DO NOT CARE. They don't care how many people die. They don't care what the data says. No amount of evidence will convince them. They are doing their jobs based on faith, not knowledge, and it's killing people. In #airpollution terms the levels of #aerosol loading are quite high (shown here the Aerosol Optical depth at NASA GSFC in Maryland).

Anything above 0.4 (500 nm channel) is considered polluted and we are 4 times that level.

Fortunately most of the smoke is rather elevated and not near the ground (for now). Profile of #aerosols distribution from a lidar in UMBC, note the lower concentrations near the surface in the last few hours.
