Happy #420day in which, by pure happenstance, the #YellowBuckeye #Aesculus_flava leaves in my yard look their most pot-leaf-like.

To give a better idea of the scale of a giant #YellowBuckeye #Aesculus_flava this is a shorter specimen (134’ / 40.8 m) with a larger diameter (6’ / 1.83 m vs. 4.6’ / 1.4 m). Pretty unbelievable these #GiantTrees can occur in the Eastern US.

Just thinkin’ about the #YellowBuckeye #Aesculus_flava that formerly grew near Elk River, #WestVirginia & was measured at 177.6’ (54 m) tall in Mar. 2009. Surprisingly, this means until quite recently Yellow Buckeyes were the third-tallest #tree species in Eastern North America (after E. White Pine and Tuliptrees). This #bigtree was reportedly 196’ (59.7 m) when alive, although this is apparently *somewhat* exaggerated.
