To give a better idea of the scale of a giant this is a shorter specimen (134’ / 40.8 m) with a larger diameter (6’ / 1.83 m vs. 4.6’ / 1.4 m). Pretty unbelievable these can occur in the Eastern US.

Just thinkin’ about the that formerly grew near Elk River, & was measured at 177.6’ (54 m) tall in Mar. 2009. Surprisingly, this means until quite recently Yellow Buckeyes were the third-tallest species in Eastern North America (after E. White Pine and Tuliptrees). This was reportedly 196’ (59.7 m) when alive, although this is apparently *somewhat* exaggerated.
