@toychicken Yes, that's it! Apparently Aethelflaed's mints in Mercia used either a castle keep or a flower on the obverse, and I'm thinking to use them in the border of my #Aethelflaed embroidery. I was having no joy with my assorted searches this morning!
I find myself in search of images of the obverse of coins struck in Mercia in the time of #Aethelflaed, and my searches online are not successful. Are there any numismatists who can point me at a suitable reference? #histodons #coins #numismatics

I'm reading up on #Aethelflaed, and the author keeps referring to her shaping of the Midlands. Brought up in Chester, I've always thought of myself as a northern lass, and I keep being knocked off my balance.
Mind you, my Geordie mother agrees with the author!

I am beginning to pull together my bookshelf for the #MedievalMoversAndShakers.
I've been pleasantly surprised that #Aethelflaed has been fairly easy to find. So far, #Rahere is represented by a couple of pages in "London".

Can any #histodons recommend biographies of #Rahere the founder of St Bart's, #Aethelflaed the Lady of the Mercians, or Dame #JulianOfNorwich?
