A curious little thing is this #Crow. Or is it a #raven? I just cannot tell the difference.

It was perched on an electrical wire outside my balcony just now.

I might have to call on the worlds number one authority on ravens for an ID, as @Witchy_Minx will know for sure.

It’s topping 38° today in Melbourne so I guess there’s no surprise why this little fella is exhibiting this unusual behaviour. I thought maybe it was panting or the like, such as a dog.

But no, birds don’t pant they do something else as I’ve just discovered after a little research!

Birds do not have sweat glands, which offer the simplest way of cooling caused by evaporation.

By keeping their beaks open during high summer, birds let the hot air outside sweep over the wet mucus membranes of the mouth and throat.

It kinda works like and evaporative cooling!

Maybe like me, you’ve learnt something new on the first day of the year!!

#Murrumbeena #Australia sees this vibrant #rose displaying itself beautifully in the morning sun.

The deep orange colour is appealing to the eye and the petals felt soft, firm and in their prime.

I just loved how the inner flowering section was a deep shade, whilst the outermost petals lightened in colour.

It’s simply gorgeous, don’t you think?

This #orangedaylily was flowering in #BrightonNorth #Australia.

It was in various stages of flowering and whilst it looked happy enough I think it would benefit from a good watering, due to the enduring heat.

Nevertheless, buds on an adjoining stem were ready to burst into full blown flowers in the coming days - it was eye catching as I walked past.

They’re on display in this pot out the front of someone’s house, living their best life. And beaming brightly for the passers by!

These flowers remind me of times past… they were a staple summer flowering feature in my childhood garden.

Pinks, purples, whites and multicoloured (two-toned) - they’re so versatile and easy to grow.

Mum planted these things ‘everywhere!!’ - in garden beds, pots and anywhere else they would fit!

The #bower plant or #bowervine, is a species of flowering plant endemic to eastern #Australia.

It is a woody climber with leaves that have three to nine egg-shaped leaflets, and white or pink trumpet-shaped flowers that are red and hairy inside.

You can see how the leaves are attached (stuck) to the side wall of this residential dwelling.

It is often grown as an ornamental.

The flowers are cute and eye catching.

I haven’t seen many of these around this summer. I really liked this!

This #kangaroopaw is simply divine!

I think it speaks for itself… just look at that burst of colour and yes, to the touch the flowering parts were as soft as velvet.

I have only seen #sealavender preserve-dried… it lasts for years!

I’ve observed it in this blue / mauve colour; also pink and white.

Because it’s usually dried, the flowers are usually rough like that brown Ferrero Rocher chocolate-brown bonbon ‘cup’ packaging (you know the one? - that’s the best example I have 😄) so it was foreign to the touch when the flower heads were soft, but firm.

They are simply gorgeous.

#Okleigh #victoria #Australia has a public cemetery that’s in a filed, meadow type setting, without fences or restriction. It’s open to anyone wandering through this public space.

It’s historic in nature inasmuch as there doesn’t appear to be new gravesites… many are of the dearly departed from yesteryear who lived a life and experienced a different time to that of our modern-day.

These pictures were taken during sunset.

My will clearly specifies being buried under a newly planted #gumtree sapling, to give to give back to nature and to the earth, in some small way.

I had such trouble identifying this. I ‘think’ it’s a #stripedsquill.

Happy to be corrected by botanist-extraordinaries of #mastodon, as it still has me a little stumped.

Again, located near gravesites at #Oakleigh cemetery #victoria #Australia. From observations these two little wispy plants were the only ones in the entire space!

What took my breath away was the delicate nature of the flower petals and the subtle blues that bleed into each small petal. So elegant. So beautiful.

I find this beautiful. It is an Aeonium arboreum, or a #treeaeonium.

It is known as an invasive weed in places outside its natural distribution.

What is it’s natural habitat?

The plant is endemic to the western Canary Islands of Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Gran Canaria.

These can grow up to 2 metres and their leaves present in flattened rosettes with diameters of 10 to 25 centimetres. Young leaves are pressed tightly together.

They’re super-hearty plants and can survive with very little water - or love. I’ve had a few in the past in pots, otherwise they’ll just keep growing and take over!

And no matter how green one’s thumb is NOT, you won’t be able to kill them!

But the reason why I think I love this plant; just look a the detail and architecture of this natural beauty.

The #Yucca is a species of flowering plant native to the southeastern United States. It is an evergreen shrub. And it’s beautiful!

Apparently the flower stems alone can extent upwards to 3 metres (10 feet) tall and hold masses of cream coloured flowers, as pictured, during early summer.

I’ll be intrigued how long this blooms for. I’ll be keeping an eye on this. Planning to revisit ‘her’ (it’s her, as it’s super attractive!) in a week for a squiz.

Have never seen this flowering bush ever before. No wonder, as it’s native footprint is tiny!

It is a ‘round-leaved tea tree’.

It comes in white or pink. Flowering occurs from October to December in Australia.

It often grows in rocky places in shrubby heath or forest near Sydney to through to coastal areas of New South Wales. It has also found in south-western Western Australia and sparingly in eastern Victoria.

Beautiful, delicate petals. I think I found this at its perfect best!
