I see both sides of the debate, including concerns that AA would filter out qualified majority (in this case, White) applicants by decreasing the standards for minority (Black) applicants. I have this fantasy:

No AA filter. More White people than Black get hired/accepted/chosen because White have better education /networking opportunities/ whatever. Then the elementary schools/ training programs get more funding so that it's not as hard to find a qualified Black.

"In consideration of the supreme injustice visited upon black and brown people today by , we will be transparently spending our entire endowment to discover and best support those families most impacted by historical and current racial bias."

Said no university president today, nor will they.

Justice Roberts is willfully ignorant of the challenge that is bested in a society that has systemic prejudice when one isn't of the dominant identity. If they wanted to eliminate race in admissions to be an included factor then preferences for legacy admission should have been ruled unconstitutional too, since alumni are overwhelming white.

A history of severe discrimination has ripple effects long beyond when it ends as a practice. Bias will always exist and have unfair effects on some groups. IDK the best way to deal with these problems ASAP as a society.

When I see an important resource being rationed, my first instinct isn’t to engineer a more fair rationing process. Instead I wonder how the supply can be expanded so everyone can have sufficient amount of that resource.

If qualified students are being turned away during college admissions that means we need to build more colleges and hire more professors. We have the resources to educate everyone, at no direct cost to the student. We choose not to, as a society.

SCOTUS Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s very impressive argument on 10/31/22, about the role of race in affirmative action, coupled with her brilliant 10/4 argument that a Constitutional originalist would have to acknowledge that the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were created with race-conscious intent, immediately confirmed my enthusiastic support for her appointment.

However, I wonder whether we might consider this issue in another light.

@realcaseyrollins @Korsier @LemmyDev @a7 the extreme left in this context are targeting *specific* white men, e.g. the orange man. Anything else is taken out of context.

@ensa @jess @lesbianhacker "professed", no. membership isn't free. FedEx *pays money* to a superPAC bill mill that writes policy to stop , to stop public healthcare, public education, to fight immigration, & to fight gun control. Of course politics are relevant. And it's not just FedEx's stance, they are an active adversary via ALEC membership dues.
