It’s remarkable to read the ’s statement about their interactions with ’s Department of . Definitely read the whole thing, but here’s just one quote:

“We have made the mistake of treating FDOE with the courtesy we always accord to an education agency, but they have instead exploited this courtesy for their political agenda.”

I’m glad to see some pushback against .

Seems like too little, too late 🤔

“The organization also said that 's public and private objections had no bearing on changes the made to the final curriculum of the course, which it released earlier this month.”

Our commitment to AP African American Studies, the scholars, and the field – Newsroom newsroom.collegeboard.org/our-
The College Board did not hit back. They cleared the air with facts and receipts to prove that once again republicans know nothing about what they protest only that the headline will sound good. When you lose credibility for crying wolf do not be surprised when you are devoured by that wolf.

Here's a powerful way we can stand up for an inclusive and accurate vision of the African American experience in the US: call/send a quick letter to the folks who manage the US advanced placement program for high schoolers.

"In today’s world, preserving a sense of shared American identity requires allowing young people to understand our history in all its complexity. If Florida officials were wise, they would realize that means helping students of all backgrounds see themselves in our past, so they can better envision themselves in our future"

Cowardice:

The College Board Strips Down Its A.P. Curriculum for African American Studies

After criticism from Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, the official course looks different: No more critical race theory, and the study of contemporary topics — like Black Lives Matter — is optional.

The AP college board changing because a fascist in Florida doesn't like it is some bullshit. And it would never happen in the opposite direction. American and European History classes are very anti-socialist but if Bernie Sanders or AOC spoke out about it and got those classes banned in Vermont or New York there ain't no way the classes get changed.

"We will not mince words. The contention that an AP curriculum in African American Studies 'lacks educational value' is a proposition supported by white supremacist ideology, because it fundamentally demeans the history, culture, and contributions of Black people."
