These intricate flowers (#LargeWildIris or #AfricanIris) consisting of whites, purples and yellow are really good value visually, when they’re blooming.
These flowers come out to play for a few days at a time then die off in readiness for a new bloom.
I’ve seen a strip of these plants growing at a south-east #melbourne suburban shopping centre since late last year - crammed into a 2 metre x say, 30 metre long garden bed.
There must be 500 or more individual plants situated in the same bed... and they’ve flowered at least half a dozen times or more, throughout that time.
They’re gorgeous when they’re in full display, en mass.
When they’re not flowering the long sword-like greenery (leaves) are gorgeous. These do so well in summer heat, as well as being drought and frost hardy.
From #SouthAfrica, although reported to be somewhat of a weedy pest here in some parts of Western Australia and Queensland.
