I would say Agent Based Modeling is pretty much my favorite kind of model. It really gets into the heart of thinking about the process that is going on. I have this dream to found a nonprofit specifically aimed at tackling complex social issues with insight from ABMs. The question is just how to get funding to do it and a critical mass of participants to work on it. #agentbasedmodels
I'm a PhD student in Urban and Regional #Planning at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I'm especially interested in regional revitalization in #Japan, #Korea, and elsewhere in East and Southeast Asia.
Also a big fan of #JuliaLang and its applications for social science. In a parallel life I build #AgentBasedModels

Another interesting way into this kind of thing is #agentbasedmodels you could get Uri Wilenskis book and start playing with NetLogo
@ZachWeinersmith
This textbook on #agentbasedmodels for use in Archeology looks extremely interesting. https://santafeinstitute.github.io/ABMA/ thanks to @cdwren and colleagues for making this available to the world.
Two months in the #abm4energytransition project and we do have the first wireframes and the first agent based simulation flows ready! Super awesome project! #EnergyTranstion #giscience #AgentBasedModels

#introduction when the database crashed I lost some followers, but because I hadn't backed up my account yet, I am not sure who they all are. As an extended introduction I'll tag some common topics I like to discuss, maybe people will see those.

I also used #agentbasedmodels for investigating the effect of frequent pooled testing on COVID spread. With my friend Hadi Meidani we looked at how well you could control COVID spread if you only had probabilistic information about which people had COVID. Testing thousands of people every few days by pooling 20 or 40 people into each PCR reaction you could rapidly reduce COVID spread at dramatically reduced cost of testing, even if some fraction of people cheated on quarantines.
I've used #agentbasedmodels for a few things. In this paper, my wife and I built a model for rib development in mice https://elifesciences.org/articles/29144 we did this because she kept asking me to help her create a figure that described what she thought her data meant... and she couldn't explain it to me (so how could we make the figure?) So I started coding a model in NetLogo... and suddenly she had something she could interrogate... we expanded it until we had a model that made sense.
@osc
I would love to do more #agentbasedmodels but I find that it can be hard to convince people. My wife does bone biology and we've been trying to get traction on agent based models of bone repair but it whooshes over the heads of grant reviewers... I also think it'd be a great way to investigate healthcare, housing markets, water resources, forest management, electrical grids... The state of CA should be banging down the doors to get these models built.
#agentbasedmodels are one of my favorite tools for understanding complex systems but I think they are largely misunderstood. And they're hard to get traction among researchers. My wife and I built one to help her understand a biological issue that was confusing her. The remarkable thing about it was that it produced robust behavior that could be interrogated on avg. People get hung up on individual predictions. If you're using agent based models you should be doing hundreds of runs.
So excited to see the active #PhysiCell community!
This #preprint #mathbio stems from our 2021 workshop and hacakthon. Inês Gonçalves, David Hormuth II, Sandhya Prabhakaran, and Caleb M. Phillips They made an extension for calibrating and optimizing #AgentBasedModels written with PhysiCell.
Way to go!!! @biorxivpreprint

It’s been quite a while folks! Not that I was ever active on Twitter lol. Many great things have happened in my life, including working on some amazing research projects to counter #deepfakes, getting involved in various #AI applications, building prototype #agentBasedModels , being awarded a fellowship, and applying to computer science #PhD programs this season. I’m currently working at one of my dream engineering employers, but I’m very much devoted to following my doctorate dreams 🖤👾
