To visualize, Imagine if someone set up a faux biz page to sell cannabis plants, took orders at a small markup (i.e. above your retail price), then forwarded the orders to your biz to fulfill. Except, per Doctorow, these fucks do it to multiple businesses.

#Aggregators are parasitic scum. Do not follow them. What am I talking about? Aggregator accounts scrape sites for others' photos that they repost from their own account, sometimes with attribution, sometimes not. Because they can constantly post the best work of hundreds of people, they can easily amass large followings that they almost always use in some way to make money. This is parasitic theft, even when not technically illegal under copyright law. DO NOT FOLLOW THESE SCUM. #copyright

@mgeist how do governments not yet understand that #media #aggregators benefit media outlets far more than the aggregator themselves?
If #GoogleNews stops listing a specific outlet, their traffic will drop.
Personally, I think Google should counter-propose payments for being listed at all to compensate for fees.

Never mind the paywalls: simply knowing that information can be backtracked could make a big difference in fostering trust.

Now imagine that sharing some online news article on #socialMedia automatically finds the URI and makes it visible. #Search engines and news #aggregators could do the same. Affiliations, agencies, follow-ups, citations, sources, corrections and retractions could be easily found.

I would be interested in having a service that is #scraping the block lists of all known/relevant #mastodon #instances and counting the hosts #blocked once a week/day as it would imho make decisions to ban weirdly/suspiciously named instances easier.
