My parents are in amazing shape, at 87 and 79. They bop all over the place; they have a rich life. Museums in NYC, hanging by the wood stove in the mountains of Maine, author event lunches at church…

And also, it’s not physiologically possible for them to be alive all that much longer. My mom (younger) we’ll probably get to keep for some time, but my vibrant Dad is undeniably near the end. Ten years would be amazing. Certainly that’s not likely.

I've emailed him about it (we write together quite a bit) and suggested he might address some of the complicated/harmful pasts of some of the environmental heroes he mentions. He addressed the selection of the title of his first book, Brother Earth, beautifully and I think he could do that with Muir, Thoreau, and some of the other problematic guys. I'm not doing a good job with my Dad's mastodon @PaulSantmire. He has started sending me small blurbs that aren't substantial enough for his blog. It's exciting! But they are too long for mastodon. Instagram isn't about the text. I have a Facebook for him, but hate to use it. Maybe I should just start putting them on his blog... not sure why I'm posting this here. Maybe you'll have suggestions for sharing my octogenarian father's bits of writing?
