An ordinary #hedge line? Think again. The tell-tale reverse S bend, an echo of the aratral curve formed by the ploughmen and their ox-teams working the #medieval open #fields. The hedge itself, following the grain of the old field-system it replaced, speaks of the slow process of piecemeal #enclosure rather than wholesale and rapid landscape change. Quite a #history told by such an everyday feature of the #Midlands #Landscape. #AgriculturalHistory #Nottinghamshire

This government information film was made in 1944. It contains a great deal of footage of cattle in the Welland Valley in the opening sequences. The film shows how the land was mostly grazing, & it was only in the following years that much of it turned to arable.
I recognise quite a few of the locations, as I grew up in this area, 20 years after it was filmed.

Can you recognise any of these locations?
