Ooh, that was fun. I deactivated at last — going into 2023 without a certain social media site. Excited to be here, too. I’d love to meet folks here who are interested in and a range of random things

Methane is an elephant in the room.
A new study has found that the combined emissions from 5 meat and 10 dairy corporations account for more than 80% of the EU’s footprint and for 11.1% of the world’s livestock-related methane emissions.

If you did not already know, methane traps heat 80 times more effectively than carbon dioxide. The emissions from these companies could be way more as there is a lack of transparency from the companies which makes it difficult to measure greenhouse gas emissions accurately.

"The report also provides the latest estimates for the overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the same companies, which amount to around 734 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent – higher than the emissions of Germany." - from the executive summary of the report, found here: iatp.org/emissions-impossible-

How can this be fixed? For instance, we need to reform agricultural policy. This includes removing harmful subsidies for mass production and transitioning subsidies towards positive environmental and social outcomes.
