except I'm not sure I find it dismaying. It is, after all, one answer to people's worries about the impending "singularity",

i.e. that human intelligence will always be relevant and the only "singularity" we have to worry about is the one in which we're drowning in the output of garbage algorithms.

...which leads to the dismaying possibility that there may not actually *be* any other kind of AI

(i.e. other than ways of getting garbage algorithms to produce output that fools humans into thinking it was produced intelligently)
