This got him arrested for the first time in 2011. After he had been released, the authorities continued to spy upon him and had him arrested again in 2017. In 2018, he was sentenced to 10 years of prison.Since 2017, he is constrained to an isolation cell.

For the 2022 to 2024 term, the UAE are elected member of the #UN Human Rights Council.
