HB 105 is insane on so many levels. The worst part is the "requirement for parents to provide a list of approved nicknames and pronouns." Really? How's that going to work if the child isn't out to his/her/their parents?? We don't have enough mental health professionals in Alaska to deal with the trauma that would occur if this fucked up bill becomes law AND we already have the highest rates of suicide in the nation! The second worst part is all the extra work that teachers will have to do. It should have died in House Education. If a parent has to approve every textbook, lesson, etc., teachers have zero flexibility and therefore, can't teach as they see fit, but only how the parents want them to teach. Why have teachers? A permission slip for everything. And what about those kids who don't have permission slips? What happens to them?
This "revised" version of Alaska's HB 105 is actually worse than the original.
