Anybody else unhappy that #AlaskaDaily is gone forever? It was a neat combo of #LouGrant and #NorthernExposure.

I started watching the #TV series #AlaskaDaily because I heard it was primarily about #MMIW. I am curious what other #Indigenous people think about the show (just general observations, please, no spoilers).

As usual, it is being told from the perspective of a white protagonist, which is frustrating. However, the main character appears to actually be Alaska with its many villages and cultures. Thoughts?

Werde derzeit irgendwie dauernd an die #AlaskaDaily Folge erinnert, in der eine Influencerin vom Kreuzfahrtschiff fiel und es natürlich eine große und teure Suche gab, während die indigene Bevölkerung selbst nach ihren Vermissten suchen musste.

#AlaskaDaily just completed an outstanding first season. It deserves another. It's an outstanding ensemble drama with a perfect cast, great writing, and the nerve and imagination to explore issues most people know nothing about.

The larger and most interesting storyline of Alaska Daily is an investigation into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW).

The “face” of the series is Eileen Fitzgerald (played by Hilary Swank). An experienced reporter whose reputation has crashed, she is lured to Alaska to investigate the MMIW story (and maybe, in the process, redeem herself).

The Daily Alaskan editor has teamed Fitzgerald with an Indigenous reporter, Ros Friendly (played by Grace Dove). This means that altho Swank has top billing, her white worldview and assumptions are regularly challenged/ corrected.

The first 5 or 10 minutes of the pilot episode seem stilted/ wooden, but the upside is we don’t get bogged down in the mostly irrelevant story of Fitzgerald’s fall from grace.
Once she arrives in Anchorage the pace and story shift completely, and the show becomes a real treat to watch; A combination of murder mystery and armchair travel.

I started watching #AlaskaDaily a few months ago, and, although it was very uneven in quality, I stuck with it because of its focus on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women #MMIW. It has steadily improved and has never wavered from its message. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
