I know that many of you remember when Sarah Palin said she could see Alaska from her house. Well, not exactly, but you can literally see Russia from Alaska. The Diomede Islands are in the middle of the Bering Sea. One is Russian, the other American and only 2.4 miles apart. In 1949, Thayer, Nebraska, native Steve Henson moved with his wife to #AnchorageAlaska where he worked as a plumbing contractor for three years in the remote Alaskan bush. To keep his work crews happy, he invented a new salad dressing made with buttermilk. Henson has a very successful plumbing business & retired at 35. He moved his family to CA and eventually bought Sweetwater Ranch in San Marcos Pass in 1956 and renamed it Hidden Valley Ranch.
