This is a weird one. Seems like a strange place for a quake. #AlaskaQuake https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ak02312e4ly8/region-info
I think it's going to take a good #Alaska #Earthquake to really make me feel at home on the prehistoric pachyderm app... #AlaskaQuake

Just testing - because you'd think we'd have seen and used the
#AlaskaQuake hashtag enough for it to be cached, but so far, it seems to be ignored, which ... is disturbing...
Alright, more out-of-region tsunami data coming through the two bots, posting in UTC because the planet is big and it keeps me from running multiple passes for the same event for both bots. Still not perfect, but getty better. Feedback always welcome! #EarthquakeMastodon #AlaskaQuake #CaliforniaQuake

Testing some formatting changes for @AlaskaQuakeBot by using a branch in the @Tines story to DM me the draft changes. I think I can correlate quakes to tsunami warnings, even though they're not the same data owners or formats, but I need a tsunami warning to test. 💔 #AlaskaQuake #ShowYourWork
Here's a peek behind how @AlaskaQuakeBot was made.
#Tines is a fantastic product with a community tier to experiment and publish workflows, which they call Stories. Stories are built from a tiny set of Actions, think code blocks specifically designed for APIs, or a JSON chain letter.
USGS produces data in GeoJSON. I ingest the last hour, explode the array into individual elements, sift out the ones I've already seen, convert the timestamps, and post. Voila. #AlaskaQuake #ShowYourWork

I spent a couple of minutes looking at how Mastodon bots work. Lots of info on the artistic side, less so on the technical side. Ended up looking at the Mastodon API, then the USGS quake API, then Wikipedia for the geographic center of the state. Pretty sure I can knock together a bot in a couple of hours (or less) with just Tines.
In theory, a good weekend for it. In practice, I will probably be cleaning and decorating and dreaming of coffee and bad movies and naps. #AlaskaQuake #ShowYourWork

Magnitude 4.1, occurred at 4:36 PM, and was centered ~13 miles NW of Wasilla.
I definitely felt that one!
@darkhorsecoffee @ketacik I was going to use the #AKQuake hashtag but settled on #AlaskaQuake. The old bird days of just yelling #quake are over. 😂
