I found a 1932 #map of #NewYorkState on the cover of a brochure promoting #AlbanyNY that is filled with absolutely delightful illustrations (and, yes, some casual racism, which I'll leave for another post).
All #illustrations by Herbert Writer, about whom I know nothing.

The 40th of the Albany Bicentennial tablets, placed in 1886 in honor of the city's 1868 charter, commemorated Franklin Street, formerly Frelinghuysen. Franklin has lost some of its continuity, Rev. Frelinghuysen has been all but forgotten, and although the building it was placed on still stands, the bicentennial marker is gone.

I often write about the #LocalHistory of #AlbanyNY – I've been focused on telling the stories of a series of #markers put up during the city's charter #bicentennial.
The latest entry tells some stories of one of #Albany's shortest streets, Norton Street, where #AaronBurr once practiced law.

I'm still very slowly telling tales of #Albany #history. I got locked into a project to tell the stories of the Albany Bicentennial Markers, put up in 1886 to mark the city's charter bicentennial. I'm down to the dregs, I'd say – commemorations of streets whose importance was never explained on the markers, some of which barely exist today.

Over at Hoxsie.org, my series continues on #Albany, NY's bicentennial markers, placed in 1886 to commemorate people, buildings and streets. This one was for James Street, never much more than an alley between two major streets, it was named for William James, super successful merchant. Novelist Henry James, philosopher/psychologist William James, diarist Alice James are his grandchildren.

#netflix officailly announced it will get out of the DVD mailing business.
We (the APL) will continue to circulate thousands of DVDs every month because subscribing to a dozen streaming services is unsustainable.

I've lived here for 20 years burned buildings never get rebuilt. One by one the strong brick buildings fall down from neglect or get incinerated and are not replaced. Or maybe they get replaced with low quality construction for high income earners. #housing

This week on my #LocalHistory blog, I uncovered nothing and solved no mystery. For some reason, the 1886 #AlbanyNY Bicentennial Committee chose to honor a street that was barely a street then, only an alley now. The #HistoricalMarker went missing more than a century ago, and I personally know every person who knows where Dean Street is.
