[24/30] Discovery - Daft Punk (2001)

How is this album is over twenty years old?!

Dunno anyone that hasn’t been impacted by this album somehow, whether it’s through the music or Toei animated film. How many times was One More Time on the music video channels in the 00’s?

Doing this was such a nice revisit to an album that I used to listen to on repeat as a teen.

Late entry to the playlist… I wasn’t sure if I had space , but had a relisten and wanted to put it on - was a great friend during lockdown.

I’ve been lucky to have been intro’d to Yelle via a pen pal I had in HS… have stuck with them since.

The lyrics of “J’veux un chien” are very smart, and I was feeling a bit of lewd with this one 👀

[21/30] OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES – SOPHIE (2018)

There are artists who come and go, and there are ones who will make their mark on music and pop culture for ever. I think SOPHIE is one of those beautiful musicians that will never be forgotten. 💔

Is It Cold In The Water? is a track that gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I play it on repeat. I rack up some serious airplay on that.

[20/30] Body Talk – Robyn (2010)

This album came out in the era where artists loved to release “part one” and “part two” of an album? Without a part time job as a teen, it was such a melt. But, this album is delightful, so we’ll let it slip this time.

Lughaidh looks real Sulley like in this palette and we love that for him. (And it looks like he could use a cheer up!)

[19/30] /\/\ /\ Y /\ – M.I.A. (2010)

Had a bit of artist’s block with this one! Found it hard to work out what I wanted to do with it although always felt this album had a “dystopia setting movie soundtrack” vibe. Not hugely fussed on the outcome EXCEPT the white vest! YES! Werk!

As much as I’ve gone off M.I.A. as an artist, this one album is excellent and has never staled. XXXO I think is still a masterpiece.

Getting into the vaporwave now :ms_crt_test_pattern:

I could listen to the soundscape on this album repeatedly. Absolutely love how each track fits into the next one seamlessly!

All of Blank Banshee’s stuff is great - 0 is a cracker but I really love 1 for real.

I remember very clearly catching a music video of I Decided at a friend’s house on TV and being enthralled - I never even knew Beyoncé had a sister. I went the next day with all the little pocket money I had, and bought the CD.

For me, a very underrated artist and an even more underrated record.

[16/30] Monkey: Journey to the West (2008)

Bit of a curveball, but I like having a mix of tastes! Also second time Damon Albarn shows up in this list!

The BBC played an ident for the Beijing Olympics that year non-stop with the music, which also featured art by Jamie Hewlett, and I became obsessed with it - I even it on my iPod nano.

From that came me listening to the opera and wow, it’s a listen!

13/30] My Best Friend Is You - Kate Nash (2010)

Another 2010 banger 💿

I love Kate Nash’s kind of child-like approach in this album. It was prevalent in her debut Made of Bricks, but it really comes out in this album for me.

Tried some “papercraft” here and think it’s nice - just like the idea of a scene being constructed out of paper 📃

[13/30] The Family Jewels - MARINA (2010)

Seems that 2010/11 was seminal in my musical upbringing!

I have mixed feelings about this piece. I’m not 100% happy with it (the palette REALLY pushed me here). But, I tried out a few new things so was a good way to try stuff out.

Cringe story: this album was on my iPod nano on repeat after I broke up with my first bf. I sent M fanmail about the fact; I never got a reply.

[12/30] Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming - M83 (2011)

M83 were the first band I proper saw live as an older teen. First vinyl I ever bought too which began a growing collection!

This album makes me feel so many emotions, more than a decade on. I’m so happy it’s in my life, I genuinely mean it.
