Today I had the pleasure of attending the opening of Engawala Art Centre. Engawala is an Aboriginal community very close to the Alcoota fossil site. We have been working together with the artists of Engawala, to sell some of their work at Megafauna Central, and bringing the artists to the fossils so that they may create create Alcoota-themed works. 1/2

A couple of months back I had the pleasure of meeting David Strassman, who I found out is an avid palaeontology enthusiast. We had a grand old time wandering #MegaFaunaCentral and ended up recording an episode for his podcast: https://www.paleonerds.com/podcast/adamyates
Check it out if you want hear more about central Australian geology and the Alcoota fossil site.
@mike The human eye (and brain to, I suppose) is so much better than a camera at picking out subtle features. But yes, Alcoota can be a tough place to spot fossils (many an important specimen has chunks missing because it took a while for the excavator to realise they were digging into a bone).
#FossilFriday Here is the most complete skull of the Alcoota Wallaby, Dorcopsoides fossilis, ever found, before preparation started. 'Dorcs' , as we call them, are interesting because although they are not very old (approx. 8 ma) they may be the oldest 'true' (macropodine) kangaroos. I'll post the finished skull some other Friday.
