Good morning, friends. 🌞🌻
This morning I slept in until almost seven, except for the occasional "Charlie go get in bed" yelled through the door, it was quite peaceful. 😂 If you don't know, Charlie is a border collie and he make noise at the door when he thinks it time for me to get up. At this moment, Ben, my other dog, is curled up to my right either sleeping or just waiting; I think maybe it's the latter, he's not snoring.
I feel pretty alert this morning. I mean before coffee ... well ... I've already had coffee. But I was feeling alert before I had the coffee. Sometimes when I first wake, my mind feels sluggish and I'm certain I'm not alone in that respect.
Ben is snoring.

For the whole of January I kept track of how much #sleep I got using my Garmin sports watch. I then subjectively scored my #alertness straight after waking up, at 5pm and at 9pm each day on a score from 1-3, with 1 meaning having difficulty staying awake or being #tired enough to impact whatever I was doing', 2 meaning that I was noticeably tired, but without any real practical impact, and 3 meaning that I was feeling fine. I also scored sleep quality as low, medium or high, based on whether I felt the sleep phases reported in Garmin Connect looked as they should be.
Interestingly, if I filter for high quality sleep, and ignore nights where I was interrupted (e.g. by the kids waking up in the night) there's not much correlation, and if anything, more sleep means lower alertness. This is all with the caveat that there's nothing extreme about how I sleep - the shortest night's sleep was 6:30, I get more than 7:00 of sleep 75% of the time, and the median is about 7:15.
