It blows my mind daily that the UK education system is based entirely around external examinations that purport to be objective, yet have the numbers of passes or fails openly determined by political whim rather than student attainment 🤷

Given the #alevels results this week and the GCSEs next week, and indeed whenever confronted with exams never forget this 👇🏻. Exams are simply a door to the next stage in your lives, if you fail don’t give up eventually you’ll unlock that door 👊🏻

The idea that pupils should be judged not against an absolute examination standard but against how well they did in comparison to other students in their cohort would appear to be of little practical use to universities nor prospective employers, #C4News.

Nor does it appear fair to the individual.

Gonna try and add to the #AnimalCrossing noise here as I'm back at it after a 2 year break for #ALevels. My island is called Flambingo and has a fairytale theme. No dream address yet as I'm still building but essentially I've tried to squash as many fairytale/nursery rhyme references into my island as possible. I believe I am close to 50 so far.

Anyway that's my #acnh introduction- I actually first got into #ac with #LetsGoToTheCity and thoroughly enjoyed #NewLeaf. I hope you enjoy my island!

One of the problems is, at least at a bog standard state school like I went to, is you get bugger-all advice on stuff like this, and you're left to your own devices as to your decisions for A level, and you find out the hard way.

One of the reasons I'm writing this, is that if someone had told me what I've just wrote, and I'd listened, I think I'd have made better decisions.

I think when moving up to A level, what you don't appreciate is going to happen, and what they don't tell you, is that lower down the school, they actually make the subjects as fun as they can, to get you interested. What happens at A level is most of the fun disappears, as you start getting more into the detail of a subject. So...you really have to LOVE the subject, not just like it. #ALevels

So, tips for kids doing/choosing A levels:
- Do the subjects you love, if you can, even if it means moving educational venue
- Do the subjects you love, not necessary what you got best grade in, as grades can be weirdly random
- Try and do a mix of subjects, if your'e good at more than one thing, to break up the potential slog. #ALevels

My other mistake was not choosing A level art. I chose 2 sciences and maths, which was GOD, DAMN, SLOG. #Alevels

I remember very little of #TheHandmaidsTale. I studied it when I did my #alevels *cough21cough* years ago. But I am struggling to answer questions here.

Also pesky tv shows cloud the memory. I don’t want to give him ‘help’ that’s really from the adaptation! 😳

@stasp Funny, I love #Maths and #Physics, they're the subjects I chose in addition to #ComputerScience and an #EPQ for my #ALevels. But I guess if you're taking the time to learn another language, something for which you need to dedicate a heck of a lot out time, especially for #English, you'll tend to focus on that above everything else. Honestly I don't know how you do it: I could never dream of learning another language well enough to be able to converse with people using it.
