January 7, 1935: Alfred Lunt & Lynne Fontanne brought Noel Coward's new play "Point Valaine" to the Chestnut St. Opera House
At the high point in the action, Lunt's character spat in Fontanne's face and dragged her around the stage, then slit his writs and jumped off a balcony into a sea of sharks. Philly audiences and critics loved it, though it died in New York.
