@asadotzler Yes, following hashtags needs to be more widely adopted, but people search hashtags all the time. That's the primary way that people find new content on Mastodon. If you do not include hashtags in your post their is no way for people to find it. This is not a deficiency. Mastodon provides the tools to engage with people of based on similar interests, and because there is no algorithm these tools are what makes Mastodon work.
