May 1936: “Brunettes Preferred!” shouts the headline.
“Blondes will be passé by 1937, is Hollywood’s prediction, based on the effects of the action of Jean Harlow… in changing back to brunette.”
Some of the first to adandon the platinum look are Ann Sothern and Alice Faye.
Ann: “I always hated being a blonde.”
Alice: “You just can’t help feeling more dignified with dark hair.”

“365 Nights in Hollywood” (1934) must be the earliest Alice Faye movie I’ve seen—made by Sol Wurtzel’s “B” unit at Fox Film before the merger with 20th Century. Faye was still very much in her “Jean Harlow clone” phase.
The picture is definitely not top studio fare of the era, but Faye’s singing and screen presence push the plentiful weaknesses of the production aside.

While watching SALLY, IRENE AND MARY (1938), I was laughing the most with #Vaudeville trained #FredAllen and #JimmyDurante, in addition to #JoanDavis and the smooth tones of #AliceFaye.
I decided to check out some improv between #FredAllen and #GrouchoMarx in the #1950s.

Alice Faye, John Payne and Jack Oakie in “The Great American Broadcast” (1941), a whimsical look at the earliest days of radio broadcasting.
Verdict: I don’t see Alice Faye movies nearly often enough!
