#AliensDarkDescent does things right. It provides a setting and a set of mechanisms that lead to emergent gameplay moments that mirror what you'd see in Aliens.

For instance, my squad is doing pretty well, but stumbled into a room with facehugger eggs and couldn't retreat in time to avoid triggering them. Sarge flames them, but now the hive is on the hunt for the squad. The squad holes up in a room and welds the door, but those buggers just barge their way in...

Picked up Aliens Dark Descent and loving it. Much like its clear inspiration Darkest Dungeon, it's full of tough choices. Every Marine has a weakness that makes you think twice about deploying them. Sarge takes stress damage if there's not an unused medkit around. Ruiz is so weak, she can only carry the ammo that's already loaded in her pulse rifle. Kurtz has bad eyesight, so they're not as accurate as they could be. #videogames #aliensdarkdescent

Just finished mission 7 of 12 of Aliens Dark Descent and only now realized that there's a timer introduced after mission 5 that forces you to finish the whole game or you loose.

So basically the game told me after 30 hours that I have no chance of finishing it and will loose all my progress. Who came up with such a horrible idea?!

Good thing there's mods because the game itself is great.

I should have done story mode. I just want the story and the power fantasy of mowing down waves of these things. Not watching my precious squad get obliterated because I didn't choose a better area when a Massive Onslaught triggered. Ugh.

#AliensDarkDescent is very brutal. Last night I was trying to evac and a drone stabbed my Recon and knocked her unconscious, but I needed her awake to open an encrypted door. A Massive Onslaught triggered and some 20 more Drones and a scattering of Runners came and wiped out the rest of my squad in a matter of moments.

Poor positioning led to a very quick TPK.

As I write Xenomorphs for roleplay, I'm paying a lot more attention to how they act within the game for the portrayal, and obviously some things are game mechanics—I think Xenomorphs would likely have a much larger detection range via sound—but overall it's fascinating to see them act and prowl around. I haven't faced Warriors yet and I'm reminded of how prevalent Drones are.

Seeing the Hive from above and how it looks so organic and skeletal and GROSS is fascinating.

Just lost 30 minutes of Aliens: Dark Descent after a crash. The game has a save system in which you can save only in very specific times. Sure, it contributes to the tension…

…but, we people have a life outside. We should be able to leave without loosing half an hour (!) of important decisions and efforts. I WANT to play this game, but taking the risk of wasting my time again is too much.

We've switched over to xbox for the weekend, to get a view of performance over on consoles. It has its awkward moments but most of the time the atmosphere (especially lighting) is quite lovely.
