Tonight's film "Allelujah" was well acted, but the writing and direction was all over the place. I never give spoilers, but there is a major plot twist that should never have been included as part of the storyline.
The ending monologue, whilst rousing, is heavy handed and not necessarily needed and definitely out of sorts with the twist. I do love Jennifer Saunders and Bally Gill though.
On the way home we missed the tram stop and whilst walking back along Lygon Street in Merri-bek, I saw the poster on the pole.

Saw #Allelujah at the local cinema. One word: BORING. Everything just failed, despite the cast who seemed to going through the motions. Watching paint dry is more interesting
I love Alan Bennett but the pedant in me could not wrap my head around the period #Allelujah is set in. That hospital is not like anything since the 60s or 70s yet the final scene is in full on covid era. Other things also didn't feel right, although it was all star and entertaining enough.
How is it possible to make a film that’s funny and moving, yet also politically confrontational? Allelujah may have the answer and will be in cinemas from Friday | John Heywood

Just watched a little trailer for #Allelujah, out in cinémas 17th March...I MUST go and see it...it's about some elderly in a hospital which it appears might be closing down...my former field of work. Some big stars, written by the inimitable Alan Bennett.
