Exciting delivery day!!
Gonna #ferment or otherwise #preserve ALL THE THINGS from the #allotmemt (well, as much as time permits, we shall see... maybe mostly passata 😅)
This is a shipment of Weck jars from Germany (there's another layer in the box).
Oh, yeah, to complete yesterday's passata thread... pushed the red passata through the food mill today and jarred it all up.
We have 2430g of #allotmemt tomato passata packaged in total, with 541g of that being the Golden Crown yellow cherry tomato passata. Guess it's time to go harvest more tomatoes.
The problem with all this #allotmemt produce right now is it coincides with my workload going stratospheric and I just don't have the time or energy for the cooking/preserving I ought to be doing to make the most of it. I really want to be doing it, but I'm already deep into overdraft on the proverbial spoons.
Was pondering if this very dead fridge could be repurposed as a kinda posh #allotmemt coldframe.
But Kat's suggestion is it can become #hotfridge MK2… I like the idea of a germination enclosure with glass doors. Hmmm... 🤔 Plus then I can worry less about the refrigeration gas problem. It'll remain "safe" indoors until the day it is disposed of properly.
Think if I was to try and make some sort of coldframe with it I'd need to use the doors only and have the main fridge disposed of properly.
As usual not near enough achieved today. (As compared to what one hoped to achieve...)
All the same, nice to have things planted out in the #allotmemt #polytunnel — about 50% planted and the main reason for not being 100% was we forgot to have enough strings pre-cut & tied. 🤦 So half the plants are in their pots still, but popped into prepared planting holes.
The pumpkin/etc patch didn't even get a look-in. Hopefully find some time during the week, the longer evenings are made for this...
I planted spanish black winter radishes when experimenting with winter cover crops last year. I’ve let this patch go to seed and be a home to wildlife while I’m working elsewhere. It’s become a haven for butterflies, bees and all sorts of spiders, beetles and flies. Shows the importance of leaving wildlife spaces #allotmemt #gardening
@norcalgrandma I use toilet roll tubes as much as I can, it's less disturbance when planting out and good for the environment too. Parsnips, French Beans, Runner Beans, Squash ... #allotmemt #growyourown
Things are starting to take off on the allotment. Plenty coming on in the greenhouse too. Rhubarb, comfrey, parsnips and broad beans, #allotmemt #growyourown #gardening

Final job of the day, aside from cooking dinner, was turning a couple of AdBlue drums into water butts. I.e. simply jigsaw-ing the tops off. Have decided it's best to keep their rims on as if you cut them off below the rims the seem to tend to go elipsoid, like the one in the middle I cut last year.
The two new ones will form part of our #allotmemt #polytunnel water harvesting setup.
The tender plants are getting a bit much in the house. I need to mend the polytunnel. There's tomatoes, aubergines, red romano peppers and cucumbers. Cucamelon and okra haven't succeeded yet. It's *almost* warm enough to chance them in polytunnel under fleece ..... #polytunnel #allotment #growyourown #growypurown #allotmemt

If couch grass root was a crop I'd have the most productive #allotmemt on the row. Every time I pull up a bit of weed proof matting there is a web of these underneath and a bunch of it on top. I do wonder how well it will compost.
We found some Polish cheese "twaróg tłusty" in Budgens (of all places!) in Cambridge, had no idea what it was so of course bought some.
It's basically a firm/pressed ricotta.
So Kat has made perogi! (Well, why not...)
The bulk of the filling is #allotmemt potato.
It's good hot stodge for a cold evening.
Rare grilled sirloin, with a mushroom and red wine sauce.
#Allotmemt garlic sautéed #allotment potatoes and broccoli.
Salad of red pepper and #allotment broad bean tops with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette.
Tied together with a shared element of pomegranate molasses and fresh #garden tarragon in both the sauce and vinaigrette.
