I'm cracking on with seed sowing, even though the greenhouse space is quickly running out. Most are sown indoors and moved on to the greenhouse when they are an inch or so tall. Today I sowed tomatoes, some various brassicas, purple sprouting broccoli. There is still a danger of cold nights.

We have prepared four trays of 40 small pots to plant the onion sets, once the very cold spell passes this week. They’ll stay in the pots for a short time until they “show” green and then they are planted out. At the moment they are hiding in the shed.

Sorted. The 27 "spare" garlic have been planted in the three fenella strawberry beds this morning. Not going to pick the strawberries this year as they are newly planted. We'll see how that goes....

@ArtemisPersists they are usually a mix of white, pink and pale red because our soil is very alkaline (pH above 7) at the fron of the allotment. Strange really as I've seen a blue bush right next to a dark pink bush.

@ArtemisPersists we wish you well. We keep them damp at all times until planted out, even under the grow light and they'll stay here until the end of February. Then they'll get moved to the allotment. We will plant them in small 1.5 inch pots after a week of acclimatising and then in the ground by the end of April. Hope this helps.

The garlic bed has now been covered in enviromesh and the "spare" garlic will be planted in the three fenella strawberry beds later in the week. We'll see how that goes....

@julie3dharris we heard of Sagitta from someone we follow on YouTube (Jessie at Plot 37). Sagitta are mainly used in the chip shop trade, these tubers provide excellent, fluffy mash and can be boiled well too. We love the taste when pan fried with garlic and butter!

Sagitta are second early seed potatoes are typically ready for harvesting around 15-22 weeks from planting depending on how far North you are in the UK.

@BardfromtheBookshop there is nothing most exciting that seeing life return to fruit bushes at that start of the new growing season. Just think that in two or three months these bushes will be full of colour and hope. 👍

@BardfromtheBookshop The black currants may be showing buds. My red, pink and white currants are a few weeks away yet though.... I think. Strange when they are the same family. Didn't check my gooseberry bushes but will do tomorrow.
