There’s a lot of memories associated with this little succulent…
When I was very young we would visit my gran. She was very petite, kind and warmhearted. Her passion was alpines and she had the most beautiful alpine garden, set over small terraces with stepping stones that I would hop on to explore all the different levels.

Ajuga Reptans is one if my favourite plants for widespread ground cover, especially the pink leaved varieties.

Tiny plants!
I got to play in my greenhouse and started tending my alpine plants. I discovered a white Heptatica has seeded seedlings which I potted up.
A Saxifrage plant that I thought was dead, has sent up a tiny new rosette! Once again a reminder that what you think might be a dead plant, is just the plant having some quiet me time, before showing itself to the world again.
Picked up a couple of plants at the Alpine Garden Society flower show in Newport today.
One of my favorite parts to check in on at Portland Nursery whenever I visit is their rockery. Always brimming with interest, curiosity, and inspiration.

Zoom Lecture: Alpine Flora of Australia, 22nd February 2023, 7:30pm
This looks like it will be a fascinating lecture. Members of AGS free, otherwise £9.
Put on by the Alpine Garden Society (UK).
Info & booking: https://www.alpinegardensociety.net/news/online-plant-gardening-lectures/
About lecture: Alan lives in North East Victoria, Australia and is passionate about travelling and growing alpines in containers.
Alan says: ‘A “tree change” from Melbourne to the tiny town of Tangambalanga in the North East of Victoria in 2008 revealed to me that my plant palette would need to change to handle the different climate. Moving to rural Victoria meant having less access to retail nurseries and looking up mail order nurseries online became more of a thing.
This caused me to search for different plants of which one I bought on a whim was Draba cretica, and so began my dive into the wonderful world of alpines and alpine-like plants. This “tree change” also brought me closer to the Australian High Country. Summer visits to Falls Creek and Mt Hotham, Mt Kosciusko and the Bogong High Plains, opened my eyes to the Australian alpine flora for which my passion continues today.’

So far in my life, #spring has always come, after winter, and even #summer after that, so I believe it will happen again, even if it doesn't seem possible on mornings like this- below -30C

A couple of Saxifraga fortunei for Mastodon.....According to the search there's never been Saxifraga fortunei on this site before, so I'm claiming that one.

How handsome is this succulent, Jovibarba ‘huichol’, now growing in my alpine scree bed?!

Visited my favourite Alpine plant nursery today and OMG I brought all the plants!
Ok, 24 plants, for £55, which is a bargain. Most of these are for my new alpine wall, which I need to blog about sometime so you know what I'm on about.
Anyway, ALPINES!!!!! And the succulents are a mix of Jovibarbas and Sempervivums.
Plants! :plantmage6:

I have long wanted to have an alpine scree bed, and finally the dream has been realised!

This is a tiny alpine primrose, Primula 'Lindum Golden Orb'.
It's only about 10cms high and will spread to about 30cms. It's adorable!

This is a dainty little evergreen alpine, Veronica whitleyi. It's part of the 'Speedwell' family.
It's growing in a alpine planter which includes a piece of tufa that has moss slowing growing all over it.
