It's also not lost on me that even so many "alternative" subcultures in the US are based in consumerism. As someone who is nerdy, enjoys emo music, and has always been a kind of goth wannabe, there have always felt like gatekeepers who have wanted to prevent my claiming these identities because I can't or haven't consumed the right commodities.

Being a proper nerd—one who keeps up with all the shows and movies and collectibles and online conversations—requires time, money, and energy that I haven't always had. Belonging to music subcultures requires time, money, and energy in purchasing music, traveling to concerts, acquiring merchandise, etc. And dressing for the look of these subcultures is also expensive in buying clothes and makeup, nevermind that I have skin and eye conditions that limit how much, how often, and what kinds of makeup I can wear.

Bruh. Why is the fashion industry so shitty and fatphobic? I ordered pants from Killstar because their other pants of this size fit me. Well, not these ones, not even close. I can't put them on. It's the same sizing, the same type of pants ("leggings") but it's twice as tiny. It was expensive, I splurged and was really excited about it... And I can't size up because guess what, it was the biggest size! This is one of the only alternative fashion shops that goes up to 4XL so I'm fucked.

Why can't fat people dress like everybody else? Why are fashion sizes so volatile even within the same brand?

It had bats on it. I wanted to show you guys and wear it at the batbunny stand ☹️​
