I'm also noting that #altmetric isn't catching all the online discussion of our book because book publishers (even #OA ones!) haven't fully committed to using #DOI as the primary identifier. (And so, most commentators - incl me! - are circulating the link to the publisher book page, because it's prettier than the DOI

So, when is #Altmetric going to start recognising @Mastodon ? Seems really overdue

#Altmetric has answered my question about #twitter and #science-articles. Customer support declares:

"..we are closely monitoring the situation in terms of Twitter coverage and usage including which alternatives are being used, and we are currently working on a number of scenarios as to how we might adjust to these developments. This includes looking at the potential of tracking further platforms, including #Mastodon."

Do you also ask companies about their Twitter-engagement?

Fellow academics, any word on how #Altmetric is planning to respond to the death of the bird site?

Not absolutely sure what to make of this, but here is the #altmetric data for the volume of academic papers shared on twitter, Oct-Nov. Red line is 2022, grey is other years, numbers are averaged against the week of 1-7 Oct.

Are we starting to see a dropoff in academic twitter use post-Everything? Maybe? Hard to really say either way with confidence yet. Will be interesting to keep an eye on it.

(We definitely can say Halloween was fun this year, though...)

If #Altmetric decided to also track online attention for scientific papers on #Mastodon, this may help some academic researcher to make the transition to the #Fediverse. Maybe it would help if more people asked them?

It’s going to be fascinating to see how this evolves. Which journals are laggards and which realise pretty soon there’s a few thousand #MedMastodon peeps (what’s the new word for tweeps? Twoops ?) here already.
