When you post images or video, please provide at least a basic description in #AltText. Some in the Fediverse rely on them for a complete experience, using a #ScreenReader.

Why do so many on here still post images without #altText?

Do they really not care about people who need screen readers?

It's not hard to add.

I'm going to start unfollowing people who persist, even after I've provided them with alt text for their images.

What is best practice for providing #alttext for images that are themselves all text (like a photograph of a sign or flyer)? It’s not tenable to transcribe the whole thing (character limits wouldn’t allow it anyway).

I have an idea for how to improve the #Fediverse…

What if everyone stopped posting screenshots of tweets from that other place? (especially without #AltText)

I just discovered that @MonaApp will now automatically attach a description to a photo if that description is stored in the photo’s info! I started saving descriptions to photos of mine when I was posting them and needed #AltText, in case I might post them again. I used to open the photo and copy the description manually, but now it comes along automatically! 😍
