Here's reminder that using #altTexts is not optional here, it's a bare minimum you can do to include people using screen readers.

A case study in writing a difficult alt text:

I saw a post with a chart about different symptoms of COVID/flu/RSV/the common cold. It had no alt text, so I wasn't going to boost it. Folks, just a reminder to put #AltText in your images for the #ScreenReader users on here.
Also #CamelCase your hashtags (start every new word with a capital letter), it makes things easier for them as well.

#Tusky was already my favorite client for the #alttexts #accessibility support as a nice little pop over but ooooh disable media previews option *replaces it with alt text in the post*!

Some of you are writing absolutely lovely descriptions that merit their own boosts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart as a web dev and, for most of my life, on-call image describer and tiny screenshot reader for a blind parent. I try not to reshare anything without text, and this helps.

My favorite feature of Tusky was already #alttexts #accessibility support by way of the pop up panel but then I discovered turning off media previews *shows you the text in the post* if it exists, and "No description" if it doesn't.

Hereby simplifying my vetting on whether I'll boost most things or even look closely.

Can't repeat this enough: Remember to add descriptions to your attachments.

There are folks among us that don't have the same senses than you do, who are hard of seeing, hard of hearing or have limitation in attention or otherwise. Descriptive text helps everyone who don't know what's in the picture. Even me, when I don't understand subjects unknown to me.

Firstly, follow @alt_text. She'll remind you if you forget.

Secondly, if you have already posted without descriptions (oops!), it can be fixed very easily:

1) Save your attachment from your post (if you don't have it any more), right click and Save as
2) Edit the post
3) Remove the attachment
4) Re-add the attachment with description

Let's not be the problem.

@CharJTF, Aside from being a friend, is another wonderful person (and one of the nicest people one can know) who only posts #photos with #altTexts. Not only that, she only boosts others' photos if they have description.

You want endless sources of amusement with #cats and #dogs, you need descriptions from her photos.

One of the first things you can do is choosing a better language when generating content on social media. It's also the same when talking about the web and its affects. Remember that it's not affecting "everyone" and it's not consuming by "everyone".

Also it's easy to add #Subtitles to audio contents.

Include capital letters to hashtags for #ScreenReaders.

Take time to add descriptive #AltTexts to the visuals.
