In hindsight, Mastodon’s decentralized, open-source core and thus unable to be bought by any billionaire man-baby may well mark the path to the next wave of social. Going from “he with the most clout wins” mindset to a truly organic growth one will take some adjustment from us though.

However unlike 2008, today we know all too well what happens when big money gets in the way of the social discourse. We should already know better.
