@siin the tek that worked for me was to sprinkle grain spawn in a tub full of coco coir and vermiculite. Worked like a charm and stretched one syringe of spores into four 5 gallon tubs of mushrooms that flushed twice!

@siin my point is; if spores work better then you'll waste less substrate (not to mention time).

Perfect is the enemy of good enough.

Has anyone on mastodon used the PF Tek method to grow mushrooms but used mushroom scraps (ends) instead of spores?

Currently using a different method and have successfully colonized mycelium with oyster mushroom ends in coffee grounds but keep getting mold. I'm isolating variables that may be the source of the contamination but also want to try some other methods to see what my success is. PF Tek seems to be the One everyone recommends online, but I can't find any info on anyone who's used the PF Tek recipe for substrate & nutrients but used mushroom ends instead of spores.

I'm not *against* getting spores, but in terms of it would be great to use what I can access rather than ordering spores online and having the footprint of shipping.

We may or may not have purchased every one of Paul Stamets' books so.. some light reading over lunch.
Maybe one of these days I'll successfully cultivate oyster mushrooms instead of jar after jar of mold. (And then hopefully many more types of fungi after that!)
